What is your favorite part about working with portfolio companies/entrepreneurs?

It’s incredibly inspiring and energizing to partner with enormously talented people who are relentless in their pursuit of bold, transformative visions.

I get excited by companies where the founder is/ founders are ….

Rich in unique insights about their market, and passionate about how they can improve it and empower their users.

What’s one thing people might not know about you?

I lived in Tanzania and worked for an off-grid solar company.  Delivering electricity to rural farmers and small businesses reinforced my belief in the impact of entrepreneurship.

What is your favorite hobby/outside of venture, how do you spend your time?

I was a history major in college and still love reading non-fiction.  Recent favorites include The Prize, The Silk Roads and Master of the Senate.

What industry are you most excited to see evolve and why?

So many talented entrepreneurs are now innovating in heavily regulated industries like healthcare and financial services.  As companies build on each other’s success in these sectors, I’m excited to see a new ecosystem emerge that modernizes these industries and significantly improves the lives of the people they touch.

What is the best trip you’ve taken and why?

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil! I’m a huge soccer fan—I’ve attended games in 14 countries. There’s nothing like the passion and global celebration of a World Cup!

What job would you be doing if you were not a VC?

It became clear at a young age that I was distinctly better at discussing sports than playing them.  So I reluctantly shifted my ambition from pro athlete to sportscaster.  I love the stories behind athletes and teams and watching how sports evolve.
