I love learning about so many nascent industries and meeting people who are building companies that will fundamentally reshape the way we work and live.
I really enjoy the early days of company building. I get excited about helping executives and teams craft their story, home in on their key messages, develop strong narratives, and build incredible, mission-driven businesses.
I come from a large family, and my parents have always worked extremely hard to ensure my siblings and I were able to receive a great education. Their message was always pretty simple: Be humble, work hard, figure out what you enjoy doing, and treat everyone how you want to be treated.
I rowed crew in college and before every erg test, I used to say to myself, “Let’s kick the tires and light the fires.” This is not a famous quote. Instead, its from one of Will Smith’s best alien flicks, Independence Day. A less cringeworthy favorite would be:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did.
- Mark Twain
I saw a lot of Backstreet Boys concerts in middle school and high school. According to much of the photographic evidence, I also wore overalls a lot.
Playing squash, jogging, and swimming outdoors.
I meditate for 10 minutes (...most days.)
I loved Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese.
Am still not fluent in Spanish after hearing how often I talk about taking Spanish lessons!
I would definitely play doubles with Serena Williams...or Horse with Scottie Pippen.
After setting a goal to visit 30 countries by my 30th birthday—and due to a miscalculation, missing it by one—I celebrated Megtober one October and visited Argentina, Chile, France, Italy, and also Hawaii. It was an epic and highly caloric month.
